ON THE WORKSITE

The job is not an easy one. He works in snow, rain, and even in blazing hot temperatures as the water tanks he sometimes works in feels like “an oven” in the summer. On top of that, from time to time he finds himself knee-deep in sewage water that is filled with harmful bacteria, which, as you probably guessed, emits an unpleasant smell. But none of that really bothers him. “I never was afraid to get dirty and I think I’m immune to the smell”, he says and adds: “whatever is thrown at us, we always manage to prevail and get through it”.

The problem-solving aspect of his work is what motivates him the most. Since the water that goes through the facility can never stop flowing completely, the sequencing of the project becomes a real challenge. “We have to get very creative and develop different methods of diverting the flow of water out of our way”. Another facet that he appreciates is the fact that he gets to witness the evolution of the project from its inception to its completion. He occasionally glances back and recognizes how impressive the facility's enhancements have been thus far.

Joey is a perfectionist to the core. He likes it when things are done correctly, the first time. A small inaccuracy can lead to catastrophic events. “We have to be on the mark” he says. For someone who strives for perfection, working with the right tools is not optional. He added: “Having the right tools means a lot because you will drill holes faster, cut metal quicker, put things together a lot better. If you don’t have the proper tools you will fall behind, you’ll be scrounging around site looking for the right stuff, you will waste time and money. It just wouldn’t work for us.”

We could say that, at the very least, he is very dedicated to his career. He’s the one who opens up the jobsite in the morning and the one that puts the padlock on the gates at night. Just like the thousands of gallons of water that rush through the pipes he installs and repairs everyday, Joey never stops.
